World Environment Day is one of the largest environmental public outreaches celebrated by millions across the world. On this special day, Technip Energies recognized the collective efforts of our employees in the pursuit of a sustainable future.

Minimizing footprint in offices & industrial sites

The Five-Point Action Plan introduced by our Real Estate & Facilities teams in 2022 improves energy efficiency and supports our net zero journey. Thanks to the cross collaboration and commitment between functions, offices and industrial sites, we have reduced our scope 1 & 2 emissions by 28% compared to 2021. In Italy, we have achieved an impressive reduction of 80% in emissions, followed by France with a 73% reduction, and Malaysia with a 40% reduction. In 2023, Paris ‘Origine’ building was named as one of the 100 iconic sustainable buildings in the world during the Indian presidency of G20.

In 2023, 48% of our total electricity consumption is from renewable sources. This includes most locations in France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, India, and the USA. Additionally, some sites in Paris, Rome and Kuala Lumpur are also producing renewable electricity via photovoltaic panels.

Helping our clients to lower impact and preserving biodiversity

Our environment and sustainability teams established the ESG potential impact assessment at the early stage of prospect decision making, measuring effects on biodiversity, water, and GHG emissions. This helps to guide our commercial, procurement, and construction teams in selecting and proposing environmentally friendly solutions such as our patented technologies (Capture.NowTM, Canopy by T.ENTM, and BlueH2 by T.ENTM) that are designed to minimize clients’ carbon footprint.

At sites, we always seek opportunities to reduce consumption and adopt best practices. We developed an initiative to monitor and reduce methane emissions upon startup of a project in 2023. In the Middle East, we reused treated wastewater from a project for local irrigation. In Central America, we successfully relocated more than 150 faunas including 78% reptiles, 19% mammals and 3% poultry to protect local biodiversity. And in 2023, we made a new commitment to our 2024 ESG scorecard: Biodiversity: Zero project in International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) categories Ia, Ib and II to ensure that we have no project in strict nature reserve, wilderness area and national park as defined by IUCN.

A responsible community

At Technip Energies, our responsibility spirit goes beyond our day-to-day work. The ‘elimination of single use plastic’ program, which started from a handful of volunteering employees in Kuala Lumpur and Paris now spans to Rome, Chennai, New Delhi & Houston.

In India, we set up a recycling center which is powered by solar to treat both biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Since its inception in 2021, the center has recycled 130 tonnes of waste, generated 721 MWh energy from renewable sources, avoided over 1,600 tonnes of CO2eq emissions, and provided sustainable livelihoods income for waste collectors, 90% of whom are women.

Valentina Gabriel, Vice President QHSES, said: “These achievements demonstrate the passion of our employees in protecting the environment for a more sustainable future.

"We have developed a new tool that evaluates the biodiversity and water risks of different projects and sites. It will help us meet a new commitment in our 2024 ESG scorecard.

"As we continue to break boundaries together, let’s remember that every action counts to engineer a sustainable future. Happy World Environment Day!”
